Arts & Crafts Builders started shortly after Brian Maury hired Joe Mickum to build Brian’s house.
Each enjoyed the Craftsman style home being built, and each enjoyed the working relationship they
developed during the construction process. They decided to share their mutual love for the Craftsman
style by joining forces and starting Arts & Crafts Builders.

The Arts & Crafts partners, Joe and Brian, each bring a wealth of knowledge and experience
from two different backgrounds.
Joe thinks of a house from a beautiful forms, structural components, and working parts viewpoint—
what 25 years of field experience has taught him about constructing a quality home.
Brian thinks of a house from an owner’s perspective, with an emphasis on functionality.
How will the occupants really use and best enjoy their home? Where will they entertain, and
spend quality time together and apart?
The experience and skills each partner brings to the project results in a better new home for you.

The Founding Craftsmen
Joseph Mickum
Joe has been working on construction sites since he was a teenager.
“I’ve done just about every conceivable residential construction task there is” says Joe.
“I started out cleaning up scrap lumber. Worked my way up to a carpenter’s assistant.
Apprenticed as a junior carpenter and eventually worked my way up to a master carpenter.
I’ve done it all: framing, finish carpentry, furniture grade cabinetry, and custom millwork.
I’ve gutted bathrooms and installed bathroom tile and fixtures.
I’ve gutted kitchens and rebuilt them from scratch -plumbing, electrical, the works.
I’ve poured foundations, laid brick and stone, and built chimneys and installed windows.
There is not a phase of construction my hands have not performed.”
